
A new Trojan malware called ‘Shopper’ has affected 14.23 per cent smartphones in India, as per the latest report by the global anti-virus brand Kaspersky. This application is increasing popular shopping app ratings and installations and disseminating them that are nettling mobile users. The application can also post the content online from users’ social media accounts as per the reports.
The full name of the malware is ‘Trojan-Dropper. AndroidOS.Shopper.a’ has infected mobile devices worldwide. It increased majorly between October and November 2019. Russia is the topmost with over 28 per cent users being affected. While Brazil leading ahead of India with 18 per cent users affected.
How it affects?
As per the Indo- Asian News Service (IANS), the malware gets the necessary approvals within the devices and interacts with the system interface and applications.
According to the Kaspersky report, the malware is permeated through the third party or swindling applications. The users unintentionally download this app while trying to load any legitimate application and disguised ‘ConfigApks’. Once downloaded, the application is started on the unlocked screen.
The app can also register the user on the multiple entertainment or shopping websites like Alibaba, AliExpress, Shein, Zalora etc. with Google or Facebook account. It can also turn off Google Play Protect that scans the application before downloading.
What it holds for the future?
Though the application concentrates on retail, there are a plethora of possibilities of infringing a person’s privacy and security. According to the Data Security Council of India (DSCI), India is the second most countries hit by the cyber attacks between 2016 and 2018.
